DPI is dots/pixels per inch. In most commercial film scanners, the scan size is often given as a DPI of a print size. So in your case if they really gave you 300 DPI then at the pixel resolution of the files you received, the print size would be 3.3x4.2 inches.
You need to supply one more fact: what size will the print be. You can create a new file in photoshop and work everything out. Example 11 inches x 15 inches RGB image area @ 240 dpi = 27.2 megapixels image file.
• Verify the resolution is correct. Go to Image > Image Size. For color images, the resolution should be at least 300 dpi. If it is a combination halftone, it should be 600–900 dpi. • Verify that the mode is CMYK. Go to Image > Mode. • Make sure your image is cropped closely (no excess white space). • Save the file as a TIFF file.
As mentioned above, we would suggest a DPI of between 400 and 800 for most first-person shooters. Some people will want to go lower or higher, it really just depends on how you play and what you play. On average, DPU should be around 600 and then you can adjust lower or higher depending on how you play.

It will not change the physical page size (inch or mm) but may change the pixel dimensions of rasterized items. Affinity enables you to export a PDF with 600 dpi regardless of the resolution of the placed photos, they won't get upscaled to 600 dpi on export. (unless they are cropped with the Vector Crop Tool).
